Musician Mark hopes to win at the 'Dublin Oscars'
THE 98FM Best of Dublin awards are heating up, and there is stiff competition to be named this year's Best Dub.
One man hoping to nab the title in the "Oscars of Dublin" is Mark Anthony Smith.
The Drimnagh contender (below), who now lives in Parkwest, is a retail worker who moonlights as a singer-songwriter.
He told the Herald he was shocked to hear he had been nominated.
Mark (43) works in Argos in Liffey Valley but is hoping to crack the UK with his music.
Last month he treated 60 people he had connected with online to dinner and an evening of entertainment in memory of his father, who died this year.
Everyone who joined him had experienced bereavement, but Mark wanted everyone to have an enjoyable night.
"We turned it into a fun event instead of a sad event and it went down really well," he said.
"I'm hoping to do the same next year, only bigger and better."
The winners will be announced at a gala on May 27 to be hosted by 98FM presenter Adrian Kennedy.
All this week the Herald will be introducing those who have emerged as the city's finest in categories including Best Bartender, Best Taxi Driver and Best Morning Person.
