Expectant mum Aoife Cogan was shoulder to shoulder with husband Gordon D'Arcy as he was honoured for his special contribution to Leinster rugby.

The couple's first baby is due in less than a week and Aoife (30) was on hand to support Gordon at his tribute at the Leinster Rugby Awards Ball at the Doubletree by Hilton on Saturday night.

In an emotional speech Gordon (33), who has hung up his blue jersey but will be available for the World Cup, thanked his parents and family and paid tribute to his beautiful other half.

"To my wife Aoife, thank you. You're an amazing woman, you're giving me the best gift that anyone could ever give," Gordon said as he teared up.

"This (Leinster) has been like a family to me, so thank you." he added.

The Wexford man's former teammate and good friend Brian O'Driscoll gave a rousing speech in his honour.

"Darce has a CV to die for. He played for 17 seasons straight out of school. 261 Leinster caps scoring 61 tries in the blue jersey," BOD said.

"One Amlin, four Celtic Leagues, one Grand Slam, two Six Nations Championships and his greatest achievement of all is managing to bag his gorgeous wife."

The awards saw Leinster and Ireland heavyweights reunited with bright stars of the future as the season draws to a close.

D'Arcy's fellow retiree Shane Jennings from Rathfarnham was also honoured for his contribution to the Blues.

Sean Cronin was the big winner on the night, beating Jamie Heaslip, Devin Toner and Luke Fitzgerald to be voted Player's Player of the Year. It was Cronin's second award - he also picked up the Irish Independent Try of the Year gong.
