Mum wins €50k on Winning Streak ...but her home burgled during show
A mum-of-four who scooped €50,000 on RTE's Winning Streak show returned home with her cheque only to find her house had been ransacked and burgled.
Susan Bransfield (48) got back from the RTE studios to her Longford home to find that it had been turned over while she was in Dublin.
Shocked Susan said the brazen burglars had stolen her children's Christmas presents as well as some of her prized possessions.
The dance instructor thinks her home was targeted because it would be known she would be in Dublin for the show, and has now urged RTE to consider advising future contestants to make sure their homes are protected while they are in Montrose.
"They even took all of the kids' presents, including my son Conor's 32-inch TV, his iPod and new earphones," said Susan.
It is believed the thieves robbed her home after they spotted her name and address being announced on the previous week's show when the winners for the next week are announced.
Susan said she considered making a quick stop at her home after filming before meeting with friends, but instead went straight to the celebrations at a local pub to watch her appearance on TV on Saturday January 14.
Now she thinks that if she had gone home first she might have disturbed the burglars or prevented the break-in.
Susan is now going about replacing some of the stolen items with her winnings.
"I have got a TV for the little fella and we might go on a holiday in the summer and perhaps do a bit of DIY," she said.
"RTE should definitely consider advising people to make sure they have an alarm and that their houses are fully locked up and secure -- or failing that to get a house-sitter," said Susan.
