A mum-of-two was stabbed in her Dublin home today as her children slept.

Neighbours were alerted after the woman's screams were heard this morning.

The woman was badly injured after the incident at her home in the Millrace estate in Saggart.

Gardai were called after a man was seen running down the street at around 8am and a woman was heard screaming.

A neighbour immediately went to the injured woman's aid and to check on the children.

It is understood that the victim is the mother to children aged one and nine.

Labour Party Cllr Robert Dowds said that the news would be a shock to residents.

“I’d like to express my sympathy to the people who have been hurt by this incident. It’s an appalling situation,” he said.

“Most of the people are new to the area. There is a considerable migrant population in the area. For example, the local primary school has one-third Irish, onethird eastern European and onethird African children.”
