'Mum advised me to go to college' - Harry Potter star Evanna Lynch
She's making her mark in Hollywood after first finding fame in the Harry Potter movies, but Evanna Lynch (23) has revealed her mother suggested she abandon her acting dream.
The Louth actress, who played Luna Lovegood in the Potter franchise, admitted her mother said she should ditch the film set to go back to school when she was disappointed after an audition.
"I often have auditions where I'm like 'What happened there? That was terrible.' I used to always call my mum asking: 'What am I doing? How do I get through this?'" she said.
"[Her response] used to always be, 'maybe go back to college, maybe it's not for you', and it's not what you want to hear."
The actress's latest movie, My Name is Emily, is due to open the Galway Film Fleadh in July.
Speaking in an Irishman Abroad podcast with Jarleth Regan, she said she decided to move to LA because she found it difficult to pursue acting in Ireland.
"It was an impulse decision," she said. "I found it hard [here]. Everyone kept telling me how lucky I was. I needed to be around people that didn't see it as this stroke of luck," the actress said.
