A 36-year-old man has died after his motorbike collided with a barrier and burst into flames in a tragic accident.

Gardai are appealing for information about the single-vehicle collision which occurred in Greystones, Co Wicklow, yesterday evening at around 6.25pm.

Whilst investigations are at an early stage, it is understood the motorcyclist died after his bike collided with a nearby barrier at the Charlesland roundabout on the Farrenkelly Road.

It is believed that when the bike hit the barrier, it burst into flames. These pictures show the aftermath of the crash, with the driver's motorcycle completely burnt out.

Although emergency services rushed to the scene of the collision, he was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

It is understood that nobody else was involved in the incident.

The road remained closed last night to facilitate a forensic examination.

Local councillor Nicola Lawless said the entire area is devastated by the awful tragedy.

"Even though you might not directly know the person involved, an incident like this affects the whole community," Ms Lawless told the Herald. "It is tragic for the family and he was such a young person."
