More cold weather on way, but it won't last

WRAP up tonight, we're in for a chilly one -- but the wintry weather is not here to stay.

Although weather throughout the country has been relatively mild in recent weeks, we have been given our first taste of winter.

And while it may be time to whip out those thick winter coats, don't get used to them just yet.

Met Eireann forecaster Gerald Fleming told the Herald this morning: "It has taken a cold turn. It has been anticipated, but the cold spell won't last very long.

"We should get one more very cold night and it will get gradually milder throughout the weekend. This isn't the start of anything severe."

This weekend is expected to be a wet one, but will be taking a more positive turn on Sunday.

"It's going to get milder, we do expect some rain on Friday night and Saturday morning and will be chilly over the weekend," Mr Fleming said.
