Money was simply no object for Byrne ever since he was a teenager
Slain David Byrne lived a lavish lifestyle from the time he was a teenager.
The 34-year-old was gunned down in last Friday's shocking attack at the Regency Hotel.
His extravagant lifestyle had made him a target for Criminal Assets Bureau.
"Byrne was part of a gang who never worked a day in their lives, but he lived a very lavish lifestyle from his teenage years," a source said.
"He had been steeped in organised crime for many years and money was no object to him.
"A lot of young lads in Crumlin looked up to him because of the life that he led, but Friday's shooting just shows that there is no longevity in crime.
A key member of the Christy Kinahan cartel, Byrne had been a major target for specialist garda units for a number of years.
He was suspected of involvement in the importation of dozens of large shipments of drugs.
The boxing fanatic also had a taste for fast cars - including a €200,000 Lamborghini Gallardo car - and fine dining.
