Michael Flatley's dad to be buried in Carlow
LORD of the Dance Michael Flatley will honour his late father's life-long love of Ireland with a traditional funeral in the county where his parents for decades owned a holiday home.
The Carlow funeral is expected to take place next week once reception prayers are concluded in the US where Michael James Flatley (88) had emigrated over 50 years ago.
Father-of-five Mr Flatley Snr, who had built up a successful construction business in Chicago, died on Friday.
The dance superstar had hoped his father and his own son, Michael St James, would be in the front row of Dublin's 3Arena on March 27 and 28 so three generations of male Flatleys could witness the curtain being brought down on his record-breaking career.
"But God had other plans for my dad," the dancer told the Herald.
Now, the Flatley family will honour Michael Snr's love of Ireland with a funeral in Carlow next week.
