Meghan Markle said no to 'Suits' who wanted her undressed in every episode
Hollywood star Meghan Markle has revealed that she stood up to creators of her hit TV show and refused to be filmed in nothing but a towel in every show.
The 33-year-old, who was recently spotted enjoying dinner with golfer Rory McIlroy, said she finally felt empowered enough to stand up to the makers of Suits.
The model-turned-actress, who stars as Rachel Zane in the US show, told the One Young World conference women in music videos also need a higher value of themselves.
"In the show, for example this season, every script seemed to begin with Rachel enters wearing a towel and I said 'No, I'm not doing it anymore, I'm not doing it'," she said during a debate on gender equality.
"So I rang the creator and I was like, 'It's just gratuitous, we get it, we've already seen it once.' So I think at a certain point you feel empowered enough to just say no. I think it's a challenging thing to do if you don't know your worth and your value for wanting to speak up.
"When you're an auditioning actress years ago, so hungry for work, of course you're willing do things like that," she added.
"For me, speaking up and being able to say I'm not going to do that anymore, has been a big shift for me personally."
Markle had been involved with the world of politics and humanitarian issues and recently attended a conference in Washington with the UN Foundation discussing gender equality.
She said she was impressed with the four-day summit in Dublin - where young people from all over the world are addressing issues affecting society.
"I only wish we had more time," she said.
"It's amazing to see how empowered and passionate they are about these causes and this week the outcome is going to be incredible.
"More than anything, what I take away is that I feel braver."
McIlroy recently helped the actress undertake the fundraising ice bucket challenge in New York (inset left).
The 90210 starlet is just one of the inspiring figures engaging with the 1,300 delegates aged between 18 and 30 years of age.
The theme for this year's summit is 'Peace and Conflict Resolution' and the delegates and ambassadors in attendance represent 190 countries.
