Media still planning to party at Christmas
Saturday November 08 2008
While Christmas parties at TV3 are being scaled down this year, other media outlets in the country are not following suit.
News that TV3 bosses may not be giving their staff a Christmas party broke last week.
But RTE insiders said that chiefs at the national station have yet to decide if there would be a reduction in cost.
"We are very conscious within the current economic context about constraints and we are finalising arrangements," said a spokeswoman for RTE.
Uneasy
It was revealed last week that TV3 appear not to have any plans to throw a staff do. It seemed that Ballymount bosses were uneasy especially when they were seeking 15 voluntary redundancies.
Meanwhile, radio station FM104 are planning a big festive bash. "Our party is going ahead, thank God," said a spokeswoman for the station.
And Spin 1038 said they were planning a monster event to thank their staff. "There are not going to be any cutbacks with the Christmas celebrations," confirmed the station. Newstalk stated they have yet to discuss plans for the Christmas party.
It appears that media outlets are bucking the trend which suggests that 79pc of Irish bosses will not splash out for Christmas parties this year.
TV3 have had to implement cost reductions due to a "decline in revenues and weakness in the advertising market".
