MAryborough hotel & spa makes a splash
These two are making a splash after the Maryborough Hotel & Spa in Cork was last night named AA Ireland Hotel of the Year 2014-15.
It's the first win for a Cork hotel in over a decade.
"Somewhat unusually in this industry, our senior management team have all worked at the hotel from the very beginning. Having this mature and stable team in place has really helped us to continue to evolve," Maryborough general manager Justin McCarthy (pictured on the right) said.
In the pool with Justin was Conor Faughnan, director of consumer affairs at AA Ireland, who praised the team at the Maryborough for consistently seeking excellence.
"It's not an award that can be bought and the assessment criteria are extremely tough," Mr Faughnan said.
Tranport Minister Paschal Donohoe presented the Maryborough team with their award and said it's been a positive year for the Irish tourism industry.
"The 9pc VAT rate, I'm very pleased to say, has helped enormously in changing the perception that Ireland is an expensive destination. Backing this up is the tremendous work by the award winners here today and their industry peers," he said.
