Man quizzed over Nitelink sex attack on teenage woman
A man is being questioned in connection with the early morning sexual assault of a teenager last month.
The incident happened after 4am on December 18 in the Littlepace area of Clonee, Dublin 15.
An 18-year-old woman reported that after she had left the 70N Nitelink bus on Littlepace Road, she was approached, threatened and assaulted by a lone man. She was on foot at the time and her phone was taken during the incident.
The victim managed to fend off her attacker and raise the alarm by flagging down a passing taxi, before alerting gardai.
The assault happened near Hazelbury Park, a residential area of Clonee.
Gardai say they are satisfied that there was a sexual nature to the attack.
Officers have made an appeal locally for anyone who noticed a man hanging around the bus stop between 3am and 5am on the date in question to come forward.
They are also looking for information on anyone acting suspiciously in the area of the Littlepace Shopping Centre.
However, they were keeping an open mind and had not ruled out the possibility that the woman's attacker had been on the bus.
They have also asked for anyone who may have seen a struggle between a man and a woman around the time of the attack to come forward.
As part of the investigation, a man in his 20s was arrested in the west Dublin area on Thursday and was detained at Blanchardstown Garda Station.
A statement last night said the investigation is ongoing and further updates will follow.
