Man in his 80s killed in two-car collision

A man in his 80s has been killed in a car crash in Malahide.

He lost his life in a two-vehicle collision on the Dublin Road at approximately 2pm yesterday.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the second car, a man in his 50s, was taken to Beaumont Hospital with injuries that were described as minor.

Gardai said the latest fatality brings to 54 the number killed on our roads this year, a decrease of 14 when compared to the 68 at the same time last year.

The latest victim is the 36th car occupant to be killed on the roads in 2015, and the sixth to die this month.

Ten pedestrians and seven motorcyclists, as well as one cyclist, have also died.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to yesterday's crash to contact Malahide Garda Station on 01-6664600.
