Man beaten unconscious and dumped in garden
A YOUNG man is fighting for his life in a Kerry hospital after a suspected assault.
The man, who is in his late 20s and an East European national, was discovered lying unconscious on the front lawn of a property at Killeen Woods in Tralee shortly after 10.30pm on Wednesday evening.
Locals indicated that a party was ongoing at the time.
The man was rushed to Tralee General Hospital.
His condition was initially described as serious.
However, he is now in a critical condition with head injuries.
The man's mother is living in Ireland and she is now maintaining a vigil by his hospital bedside.
Two men were arrested by Gardai in the vicinity of Killeen Woods on Wednesday evening.
Both were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and taken to Tralee Garda Station for questioning.
They can be held for an initial period of 12 hours which can be extended to 24 hours.
Both are being quizzed in relation to a suspected assault on the young man.
The two men being detained are in their 20s and 30s.
Both are also East European nationals.
Gardai sealed off the semi-detached house which is located in a quiet cul-de-sac.
Officers began door to door inquiries as well as conducting a detailed forensic examination of the scene.
