Man (61) dies after van overturns in ditch crash

A man (61) has died in a single vehicle road traffic collision.

The man, who was the sole occupant of the car, was fatally injured when a van collided with a ditch and overturned.

The collision happened at around 9.30pm at Cush on the Athy to Kildangan Road (R417). 

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was removed to the morgue at Naas General Hospital where a post mortem is expected to take place later today.

Gardai at Kildare Garda station are investigating the accident.

The road is currently closed to facilitate a Forensic Collision examination and diversions are in place.

Meanwhile, a man (61) was seriously injured in a two-car collision in Ballinasloe yesterday.

The man, who was the driver of one of the cars, was taken to Portiuncla Hospital in Ballinasloe. The male driver(21) of the second car was uninjured in the collision.

The crash happened at around 9pm on the Ballinasloe to Athlone Rd at Kilgarve, Creagh, Balliansloe.

The road is currently closed to facilitate a Forensic Collision examination and diversions are in place.
