Man (31) allegedly threatened witness

A MAN accused of intimidating a witness in another case is facing trial on the charges.

Stephen Gardiner (31) is also accused of assaulting the woman during the same incident.

Judge David McHugh adjourned the matter to a date next month for the service of the book of evidence.

The accused, of Deansrath Road, Clondalkin, appeared before Blanchardstown District Court charged with assaulting a woman.

The assault, contrary to the Non-fatal Offences Against the Person Act, allegedly took place at Castlegrange Court, Clondalkin, last December 19.

Mr Gardiner is also accused of harming, menacing, intimidating or putting in fear a woman who is a witness in proceedings with the intention of causing the course of justice to be obstructed or perverted.

This incident is all- eged to have taken place at the same time and place.

A state solicitor said the DPP has directed trial on indictment in the Circuit Court on the charges, where the penalties on conviction are potentially greater than in the District Court.

Defence lawyer Jennifer Jackson said Mr Gardiner consented to a six-week adjournment for the book of evidence.
