Man (19) is arrested by gardai in rape probe
Gardai investigating the brutal rape of a teenage woman have arrested a 19-year-old man.
Sources say that officers have built up a "detailed picture" of events surrounding the horror sex attack in Drogheda, Co Louth, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
It is understood that detectives have obtained good quality CCTV as part of their detailed investigation.
The 19-year-old woman was attacked in the North Strand area of the town between 12.30am and 1am on Wednesday.
She was raped shortly after she left a social event on what was a very busy night in Drogheda with people out celebrating St Patrick's Day events.
The victim was taken to the Sexual Assault Unit at the Rotunda Hospital and was described as being "extremely traumatised".
A garda investigation is now taking place into her complaint and the cul-de-sac where the attack happened was preserved on Wednesday.
A full technical examination took place at the scene.
"This is a very sensitive case but gardai know where they are going on it," a source told the Herald.
The 19-year-old man was arrested yesterday afternoon in Drogheda.
