Maia teams up with Janet for fame series
MAIA Dunphy is teaming up with former X Factor contestant Janet Devlin to find out about the dark side of our obsession with fame.
The Dubliner is preparing to return to our screens with a second documentary series where she probes the pressing issues facing Irish women.
The four-part series includes a look at the country's relationship with fame and will see the petite brunette link up with singer Janet.
"It's the first time I have worked with Janet but she is an absolutely lovely girl and it's been so much fun to work on," Maia said.
Asked whether she struggles at times with press attention, the Tyrone singer described how she actively avoids certain news sites even if she know she has been written about.
"What bothers me most is when I have words put in my mouth like school girl whispers. Knowing you are unable to confront the issue just makes it worse," said the flame-haired star.
On July 19 Maia will host the Summer Fur Ball in Dublin's Mansion House in aid of Dog's Trust.
Along with comedian husband Johnny Vegas, she helped the charity launch the event to raise money and save an extra 500 puppies a year.
"I have been involved with the charity for a few months, I think I prefer dogs to most people actually," she joked.
Tickets for the event cost €100 each and are available to purchase at www.dogstrust.ie.
The 37-year-old former Celebrity Masterchef contestant and her English other half married in 2011, after meeting on the set of RTE's The Podge and Rodge Show, on which Johnny was a guest.
They walked down the aisle in Maia's mother's hometown of Seville but have been living in different countries since saying 'I Do' but Maia told the Herald that she plans to take the plunge and set up home with Johnny later this year.
