The longest ship ever to visit Dublin Port returned to the capital yesterday morning, officially marking the start of Dublin Port's 2016 cruise season.

The 333m MSC Splendida is one of 113 cruise calls confirmed for Dublin Port in 2016, a record number for Dublin Port in a year that will bring more than 180,000 visitors to the capital.

Currently the 11th longest cruise ship in the world, the MSC Splendida arrived in Dublin from Greenock, Scotland, carrying more than 4,600 passengers and crew on board.

The vessel boasts a VIP section with 24-hour butler service and features more than a dozen bars and lounges, as well as a spa and Turkish baths, four swimming pools, squash courts and a Formula One simulator, all spread over 18 decks.

After spending the day docked at Dublin Port, the ship left last night for Cork.
