Lowry caps Masters trip with New York wedding
He may have missed out on Masters success this week, but golfer Shane Lowry will return to Ireland a happily married man.
The 29-year-old from Clara, Co Offaly and his long-term fiancee Wendy Honner tied the knot in New York on their way home from the tournament.
Lowry confirmed the news with a picture of the two sharing a kiss at Central Park. The sportsman looked dapper in a suit while his bride wore a white midi dress with sparkly court shoes.
The couple have been together for over five years.
Honner, a nurse from Co Laois, was by her fiancee's side throughout the Masters in Augusta, Georgia and acted as his caddy during the traditional pre-tournament Par 3 contest.
The pair were pictured high-fiving and hugging on the green and Lowry later tweeted: "Great fun playing the par 3 today. Had a decent looking caddy on the bag too."
The couple got engaged on a beach in Dubai in 2014 and Shane said it was the highlight of his year.
"I am absolutely delighted. Wendy is a great girl and we are both looking to our future together," Lowry said at the time.
"It is the icing on the cake at the end of a great year."
The newlyweds, who are no strangers to sharing loved-up pictures and posts on social media, met on a night out without any mutual connections.
He has time to enjoy married life, with a break from tournament golf until the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow on May 5.
The Bridgestone Invitational winner said that his result in this year's Masters wasn't the finish he wanted, but his hole-in-one at the 16th hole was something he would never forget.
Meanwhile, Masters winner Danny Willett has been pictured with his wife Nicole and new baby boy Zachariah James Willett.
The birth came just in time for the Englishman, who made it clear he would not compete in the tournament unless his wife had given birth beforehand. Luckily their son arrived almost two weeks early.
