Losing at greyhounds
Attendance at greyhound racing dropped by 12pc last year, according to figures released by the Irish Greyhound Board.
The IGB reported a surplus of €5.1m for last year, which was marginally down on the 2007 figure, but the board said this would enable it to keep prize money at the same level as last year.
Just over 1.1m people attended race meetings last year, said chief executive Adrian Neilan.
In December, the board announced it would cut costs by €2m and the chief executive and other managers have taken a 5pc pay cut, while salaries above €50,000 have been frozen.
