London murder suspect in court

An Englishman wanted in connection with the murder of a man whose body was found in a London flat has appeared before the High Court in Dublin.

Ms Justice Iseult O'Malley heard that the UK authorities are seeking the extradition of Thomas Anthony Kearney (38) in connection with the death of Mr David Remmer (35), whose body was discovered in Mr Kearney's flat, at an address at Talgarth Road, London on December 13th last.

Authorities say that the dead man had been beaten and stabbed.

Mr Kearney was arrested at an address at Georges Street, Dun Laoghaire on foot of a European Arrest Warrant, which had been endorsed by the High Court in Dublin.

The judge, after informing Mr Kearney of his rights, then remanded him in custody and made the case returnable for January 15th next.

President sacks son as minister

THE president of Central African Republic, facing an uprising by a new rebel coalition, consolidated military power under his control after sacking his own son as acting defence minister.

President Francois Bozize said that he was taking over the position held by his son, Jean Francis Bozize, as neighbouring countries sent troops to help.

Hundreds of soldiers from Chad, Republic of Congo, Gabon and Cameroon have been arriving in the desperately poor landlocked country where rebels seized 10 towns in a month.
