Loans agony

As many as 90,000 mortgage holders in Ireland are having difficulties making monthly payments, according to brokers.

Figures released from the Financial Regulator outlined that 28,600 homeowners are now in arrears and have been unable to pay their mortgage for three months or more.

However, the Irish Mortgage Corporation said the number is likely to be much higher.

The most recent figures show that at the end of December there were almost 793,000 mortgage accounts in Ireland with a combined value of €118.3bn.
