wind and rain are getting the bank holiday weekend off to a poor start on the weather front.

However, it won't be a total wash-out over the course of the three days. It's going to be a mixed bag of rain and showers along with some dry spells along the way, according to Met Eireann.

Forecaster John Eagleton said that today will be windy and wet.

Persist

"The rain will persist through the day and won't clear until well into the evening or night, and then there will still be showers tonight and early tomorrow morning," he said.

"It will be all right for a few hours tomorrow morning. It will be bright, it will be humid, it will be warm for the bulk of the country in the morning, but what will happen in the afternoon is heavy showers will break out right across the country. However, temperatures are actually forecast to be around 15C to 16C in places, including in Dublin.

"At this stage, Bank Holiday Monday looks decent enough. There is rain coming up from the south, but it won't arrive until well into the evening," he said.

Meanwhile, gardai have put motorcycle safety to the forefront this weekend.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) and gardai are urging drivers to watch out for motorcyclists using our roads.

Since January, five motorcyclists have died, compared to two in the same period last year.
