Karate Kid was spotted handing out coke to pals
A MAN dressed as the Karate Kid was caught by gardai handing out cocaine beside a dustbin outside a nightclub, a court heard.
Anthony Herbert (29) was attending a fancy dress party at Light nightclub in Blanchardstown and was dressed up in a karate outfit.
The defendant, of Whitestown Avenue in Mulhuddart, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to having cocaine outside Light nightclub in Blanchardstown.
Judge John Lindsay ordered Herbert to donate €250 to Blanchardstown Hospice and said he'd strike out the charges.
Garda sergeant Maria Callaghan said gardai were on duty outside Light nightclub around 3.20am on October 28 last year when they saw Herbert and a group of other men standing between two dustbins.
Sgt Callaghan said Herbert, dressed in a karate outfit, appeared to be handing out small plastic bags to the group.
The sergeant said that upon seeing the gardai, Herbert put the bags down another man's trousers.
The man was searched and found with the cocaine, which had a street value of €100.
Herbert admitted the cocaine belonged to him.
Defence lawyer Jennifer Jackson said Herbert is working with a van company.
She said he lives at home with his mother, and he is currently looking after her as she is sick and in and out of hospital.
Ms Jackson said Herbert had attended a fancy dress party which was why he was dressed in a karate outfit.
She said the defendant disputed some of the facts, but he admitted to having the cocaine.
Judge Lindsay ordered Herbert to donate €250 to charity.
