Is it a bird ...? Superheroes fly around Park - all in aid of Crumlin Hospital
Hoards of tiny superheroes, cat and spider people raced around the polo grounds in Dublin's Phoenix Park yesterday.
It more of a toddle and waddle than a sprint as the children and their parents did two laps of the grounds in aid of Crumlin Children's Hospital.
Buggies disguised as rockets and participants in super hero costumes all contributed to the atmosphere at the Fun Run to help a €1.5m upgrade of the hospital out-patient department.
Similar events have helped raise €9m in recent years to build a new cancer ward and heart centre at Crumlin.
Director of fund-raising, Edel O'Malley says they are "eternally grateful to people who keep giving time after time" to the Children's Medical and Research Foundation which helps re-development at the hospital. The cash also goes to fund research, equipment and provides toys, birthday and Christmas parties for families.
Some funds have already been raised for the out-patient department and they hope that work will begin soon.
