Irishman killed in US after 'domestic disturbance'

An Irishman has been killed following an incident at his home in North Carolina.

Detectives at the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating an incident that occurred early on Sunday morning at Wallburg where Limerick man, Jason Corbett (39), originally from the Janesboro area of Limerick city, was found with fatal head injuries.

The County Sheriff received an emergency call regarding an alleged assault at a house in Panther Creek Court shortly after 3am.

When police arrived they found a man unconscious and unresponsive having suffered head injuries.

Emergency medical treatment was given at the scene but Mr Corbett subsequently died from his injuries.

In a statement, Sheriff David Grice said: “We are currently still investigating and waiting for autopsy results.”

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade told Independent.ie they have received no request for consular assistance regarding this case.

"We stand ready to prove consular assistance should it be requested," they added.
