'Irish warrior Cathal Pendred deserves endless respect', says pal Conor McGregor
Conor McGregor has responded to the shock news that Cathal Pendred has retired from the UFC describing his friend as an "Irish warrior".
Taking to Facebook, he said Cathal "deserves endless respect".
"Cathal is a man who came from zero combat sports background and entered into the game at a time when there was zero UFC fighters signed from Ireland," Conor said.
"At a time where 99pc of people inside the Irish MMA community, and 100pc of people outside, deemed it 'impossible' for and Irishman to get signed, let alone register a win inside the UFC.
"Nowadays everyone thinks they can do it. Cathal rose up with nothing but hard work, iron grit and a never-say-die attitude to win the Cage Warriors 170lbs title.
"This man deserves endless respect," he added.
Meanwhile, the celebrity fans are already rolling in behind McGregor ahead of his clash against Jose Aldo on December 12 at the MGM Grand.
Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam is a big fan and has tickets for the fight.
He also said he watched hours of footage of McGregor when preparing to play King Arthur in the upcoming Guy Ritchie movie, Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur.
