In Brief: Traveller feud case in court

A DUBLIN man is alleged to have armed himself with a baseball bat, chisel and wrench to cause injury to another Traveller family.

Andy Connors (43) was allegedly in a feud with another Traveller family. He has denied the charges.

The defendant, of The Villa, Blessington Road in Tallaght, appeared before Tallaght District Court charged with four counts of possession of weapons with intent to cause injury to others. He is also accused of driving without insurance or a driving licence.

Judge James McDonnell adjourned the matter to a date in March for hearing.



Simpsons toys banned in Iran

THE Iranian government has banned dolls of the Simpsons cartoon characters, who join Barbie and others on a toy blacklist.

It has been reported that the Simpsons are banned to avoid the promotion of Western culture. But Superman and Spiderman are allowed, because they helped the "oppressed".

Iran's Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults banned Barbie in 1996, describing the dolls as a "Trojan horse".



Miss Piggy to be Bafta host

MUPPET Miss Piggy was announced today as the official red carpet host of the 2012 Baftas.

"Imagine the likes of Clooney, Dujardin, Fassbender, Oldman and Pitt achieving the very pinnacle of their careers by getting a chance to speak with the one and only moi -- Miss Piggy!" she said.

The British Academy Film Awards are on Sunday.
