IN BRIEF: Grieving mum abused gardai

A MOTHER-of-three started shouting abuse at gardai after they were called to a drunken argument between her, her husband and son.

Mary McDonnell (41) was upset after she attended a Mass for a deceased relative.

Judge David McHugh ordered McDonnell to donate €50 to Blanchardstown Hospice and said he'd apply the Probation Act.

McDonnell, of Kippure Park in Finglas, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to public drunkenness and threatening and abusive behaviour. The incident took place at Dunsink Lane in Finglas on September 11 last.



Spit charge on Obama agent

A man has been charged with spitting on a Secret Service agent who was guarding President Barack Obama's home last month.

Kevin Lawrence is accused of spitting into the agent's vehicle on December 29 outside the Chicago home, hitting the agent in the face and neck.

He is charged with aggravated battery of a peace officer. Lawrence (46) is jailed on $50,000 (¤37,420) bail.



Crew deliver baby on flight

A passenger who gave birth aboard a plane flying to Armenia has named her daughter Asmik after one of the flight attendants who helped with the delivery.

The birth of the healthy baby occurred on Saturday, two hours before the Armavia airline flight landed in Yerevan, Armenia's capital, after a long flight from Siberia.

Flight attendant Asmik Gevondyan said: "All of our crew helped deliver the baby."
