'I'm going to be a dad in February', says Shane
Shane Lowry has shared his excitement after revealing he is to become a dad for the first time.
The golfing star, from Offaly, and his wife Wendy Honner, who is a nurse, are expecting their first child early in the new year.
"I don't know if many people even know this yet, but I might as well tell you - Wendy is expecting a baby so we're having our first kid at the end of February," Shane (29) told broadcaster Denis Kirwan in Dubai.
"That'll be nice. I'm going to play a few weeks in a row and then take some time off when we're having the baby, then I'll be back for Augusta."
The couple exchanged wedding vows in a "very chilled" ceremony in New York in April in front of only a handful of family and friends.
Shane popped the question on a beach in Dubai in December 2014, but insisted they were in no hurry to get hitched.
"I am absolutely delighted," said Shane. "Wendy is a great girl and we are both looking to our future together."
The news comes after the golfer pulled out of the Olympics in Rio due to the threat of the Zika virus as he was planning on starting a family.
He was among a number of sporting stars who decided against travelling.
"My wife and me are newly married, we plan on starting a family, so it was a decision I felt I had to make," he said.
"If anything was ever to happen to any of my kids, and it was my fault completely, I would never be able to live with myself."
