'I'm backing Hilary for president' - Miriam

Miriam O'Callaghan is backing Hilary Clinton's White House run, saying she would be delighted to see the glass ceiling smashed.

"I'm delighted that a woman could become the president of America. A glass ceiling would be smashed.

"I wouldn't care if it was a Republican or a Democrat but the fact that she had a tie to Northern Ireland I think, 'Go Hilary'."

Miriam has met the former Secretary of State and said she "found her very warm".

"She would be an ideal guest but she might be busy," Miriam laughed.

"I interviewed Bill and Hilary before and I liked her very much - she has a fine mind and is highly intelligent.

"It was shortly after Monica Lewinsky so it wasn't an easy time for her but she was very nice and very warm," she added.

When asked about her own rumoured presidential bid, Miriam told the Herald, "No comment" adding: "I genuinely don't know who these 'friends' are who keep speaking to the press."

Miriam was speaking at Dundrum Town Centre's Shop for Good campaign where shoppers can buy coupons to get discounts on April 24 to 26 and all proceeds go to Console.
