Yvonne Keating has opened up about her split from Ronan Keating after news broke that their divorce was finalised last week.

The couple parted ways when their 17-year marriage came under strain after Ronan had an affair with backing dancer Francine Cornell in 2010.

The pair briefly reconciled before finally calling it quits in 2011.

"It's really just a formality, it's something we've all gone through a long, long time ago," she revealed.

"In this country it takes four years to get divorced so to see it back in the papers again is really bizarre.

"I drew a line a long time ago so it's obviously just a formality - we've all moved on," she added.

The couple have three children together, Jack (16), Missy (14) and Ali (9), and Yvonne (40) said she was proud of how they had handled the situation.

"They've been great and I'm really proud of them," she said.

"I just had a lot of friends and family around, to do things gradually with them, speak to them.

"They didn't know everything at the time, they're more aware now.

"My kids are great and we've become closer than ever," she added.

The pair were in the spotlight when they first split and the former model admits the level of interest was tough to deal with.

"It was unfortunate for everybody involved, but I was always kind of aware that it's people doing their jobs really," Yvonne said on Ireland AM yesterday morning.

"I never thought it would be a big story, it was a really awful time for me, and we decided to put out a statement.

"I thought that would be the way to handle it," she added.

Both are now in relationships, with Ronan dating TV producer Storm Uechetritz and Yvonne dating cameraman John Conroy.
