'I just know Nicky will nail it', says Georgina as family fly out
It was all aboard the Nicky Byrne Eurovision Express after some of the singer's closest family and friends flew out to cheer him on in Stockholm.
An advance party headed off to the Swedish capital where he will take to the stage in the Ericcson Globe tonight in a bid to break Ireland's appalling recent run in the song contest.
Wife Georgina travelled with the couple's twins Rocco and Jay (9) and daughter Gia (2) as well as Nicky's brother Adam, mum Yvonne and aunt Marie.
Georgina's mum, Miriam, also flew out, and her dad, former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, was expected to travel to Stockholm today.
Former Westlife star Nicky said recently that his father-in-law would be there to "be with the family" and "fly the flag for Ireland".
"There's about a dozen of them in the party and they're all really excited," said spokeswoman Joanne Byrne, from Presence PR.
"The kids are especially excited to see Nicky as they haven't seen him in over a week.
"They obviously know he's taking part in Eurovision, but they're more excited about catching up with him."
Georgina's nerves will be seriously frayed as Nicky sings for a worldwide TV aud-ience of 200 million people.
"I'm feeling good. I'm really excited. It's a big honour for him and he's worked so hard for it," she said.
"But I'm nervous because I just want him to get through and then we can enjoy it for him and be part of it.
"There's a great buzz about it. I don't know what to expect. It's all new for me as well."
Georgina said Nicky has been wearing his late dad Nicky Snr's soccer jersey to bring him luck in the run-up to his biggest-ever solo performance.
"It's like he's getting ready for a football match," she said.
"He treats everything like a competitive sport and any time I FaceTime him, he's back in his room with his dad's old Ireland jersey on.
"He's very patriotic. That's the thing, and he's just ready to go out now and nail it - and he will. I know he will."
Nicky's radio 'wife', his RTE 2fm colleague Jenny Greene, and their team have also flown over to cheer him on and are hoping to do a live broadcast of the show from Stockholm.
