Ross Hutch was remanded in custody
Ross Hutch was remanded in custody

a man charged following the failed attempted robbery of a cash-in-transit truck has asked to be moved to Wheatfield Prison where other family members are.

Ross Hutch (24), appeared in Dublin District Court on Saturday charged with a Section 14 robbery in relation to an alleged botched theft of a cash-in-transit van which was collecting money from a parking meter on Green Street, in Dublin 1, on December 1.

No weapon was used in the course of the robbery.

Detective Garda Stephen Tierney told Judge John Coughlan that Hutch was charged at 8.05am on Saturday morning and gave no reply.

Consent

Hutch's solicitor Yvonne Bambury made no application for bail and Hutch was remanded in custody by consent until next Friday, when he is due to appear before Cloverhill District Court.

Ms Bambury requested that Hutch be remanded in custody to Wheatfield Prison rather than the neighbouring Cloverhill, where prisoners are usually held when on remand in custody.

"There are a number of family members in Wheatfield. I'd ask for a recommendation he be held in Wheatfield and I think that would be better in terms of security.

"His cousin is on remand and has been sent to Wheatfield. I'd prefer him in Wheatfield as family members have a special wing there," the solicitor said.

She also sought a Section 56 order requesting that video evidence be furnished.

As the hearing was finishing, Ms Bambury said two of Hutch's aunties were present in court and wanted to know if they could give him money.

Judge Coughlan refused the request, saying there was to be no communication between them.

When one of the aunties tried to speak to Hutch, the judge shouted at them to leave the court: "Get out. Get out, the two of you."

The aunties later apologised to gardai outside the court over the matter.

Hutch will appear in court again this Friday where it is expected a bail application will be heard.
