'Hounded out' teen remanded

A 15-YEAR-OLD Dublin boy, who was driven out of his locality because of his alleged criminal activities, has been held in custody for an other two weeks.

The teenage drug user's anti-social behaviour has led to threats being made that he would be shot or decapitated, the Dublin Children's Court has been told.

Last week, on a third attempt due to the shortage of spaces in the Oberstown or Trinity House juvenile detention centres, he was remanded in custody. He had broken his bail terms and his family would not take him home due to fears for his safety.

After spending one week in custody the teenager appeared again before Judge John O'Connor but his attempt to get bail was unsuccessful. Judge O'Connor further remanded him in custody for another two weeks. The teen has charges for criminal damage to a car and possessing a knife.

Comic Hooks dies aged 57

Comic actress Jan Hooks, a one-time member of the Saturday Night Live cast, has died.

The 57-year-old died in New York, according to the New York Times. Hooks was a versatile performer whose impressions on the influential TV comedy show ranged from Nancy Reagan to Sinead O'Connor.

New execution chamber open

Prison officials unveiled the renovated execution chamber inside the Oklahoma State Penitentiary and expressed confidence that the agency would be ready for the state's next scheduled execution in November.

The $71,000 reconstruction of the death chamber and adjacent witness rooms gives executioners more space in which to operate and a $6,000 scanner to locate veins.

Over 1,000-a day want past wiped

Google is being swamped with requests from Europeans trying to erase unflattering links to their past from the world's dominant internet search engine.

Google has received nearly 145,000 requests from people in Europe looking to polish their online reputations, according to numbers released by the company.
