THE Dublin home of Padraig and Willie Pearse is to get a €30,000 revamp in preparation for next year's 1916 celebrations.

The brothers, who were both executed after playing a pivotal role in the Easter Rising, were born in No 27 on the street that now bears their name.

Arts and Heritage Minister Heather Humphreys yesterday announced a one-off grant to renovate the property.

Ms Humphreys revealed that €30,000 would be spent on "decorative" works while an additional €5,000 would be made available for a photo exhibition at the city centre property.

"The exhibition aims to broaden the general public's understanding of the 1916 Rising and support the centre's educational outreach work."

The house was saved from ruin by the Ireland Institute in 1996. The group, which promotes "cultural, historical and Republican debate", restored it to its former glory using government funding.
