Here come the brides - couple finally get to say 'I do' in ceremony
It was the moment that Shauna Boland (24), originally from Crumlin, and Rachael Kavanagh (29), from Ballybrack, had waited for since they got engaged at Christmas two years ago.
The two finally got to say 'I do' at a ceremony attended by nearly 100 family and friends at the Castleknock Hotel and Country Club yesterday afternoon.
"We have been together for two-and-a half years," said Shauna.
The two ladies actually bought their wedding dresses in the same shop - Berketex Bride in the Jervis Street Shopping Centre - although they went on their shopping expeditions separately .
Shauna opted for an Italian designer, and the ivory dress with a fishtail was made of lace and tulle, with a champagne ribbon.
Rachael's dress was white with a sweetheart neckline, and both girls were clutching bouquets of white roses.
They said that they did see each other's dresses before the wedding.
The ladies stayed in the Castleknock hotel the night before the wedding and, in keeping with tradition, went their separate ways until they were reunited after Shauna walked up the aisle to join Rachael.
The happy couple were thrilled after they got hitched, and were sporting their brand-new wedding ring.
"We were both very nervous," Shuna said, but she said it was more excitement rather than nerves in the build-up to the big day.
A registrar came to the hotel to do the actual ceremony.
Rachael said that it meant the world to her to finally be married to the love of her life.
"I got to marry my best friend. I get to spend the rest of my life with her. It means a lot that it is a civil marriage," Rachael told the Herald.
Her sentiments were echoed by Shauna.
"It means absolutely everything. It's about time that this day came," she said.
The couple met on a night out after they were introduced by mutual friends.
Both girls said that the best part of the wedding day was that everybody had showed up yesterday for them, and had been so supportive of the whole process.
The four bridesmaids wore navy blue with each dress having a different twist in accordance with the taste of the wearer.
The four page boys and flower girl were all smiles as they lined up for the official photographs.
The happy couple last night enjoyed a meal with their guests.
Rachael is a chef, and Shauna is a cabin crew member for Ryanair, and they live in Temple Bar.
