Heathrow slots devalue
The construction of a third runway at Heathrow would likely lead to a reduction in the value of Aer Lingus' slots at the airport, according to an aviation expert.
The Irish carrier has 24 slots at the UK's busiest airport. Although difficult to accurately estimate, most industry analysts put an approximate value of about €400m-500m on the slots.
If a third runway ends up being built at Heathrow their value is likely to decrease due to the increased availability of slots, according to David Holohan, the head of research at stockbroking firm Merrion Capital. However, he said that the airline could also significantly benefit from the construction of another runway.
