Gardai are expected to monitor the funeral today of feud murder victim Darragh Nugent who was gunned down nearly a fortnight ago.

The 36-year-old father-of-three was shot dead almost a week before his pal John Gibson (28) was murdered in Tallaght last Monday as part of the same west Dublin drugs dispute.

Cocaine

Gardai believe both murders were carried out by the same rival gang whose leader is a convicted crack cocaine dealer.

There have been no arrests in either case.

Gardai made a fresh appeal on Friday for information about Nugent's murder in Neilstown.

Supt Dermot Mann said: "Last Thursday, gardai responded to a call of a car on fire at Woodside, Leixlip, which was used in the murder.

"It has been established the registration number of the black BMW was 02 MH 7025.

"During the technical examination of the car, a firearm was located.

"I am appealing to anyone who may have seen this car in the days leading up to September 11 to contact us."

Last night, armed gardai continued to patrol west Dublin to prevent more attacks.

The bitter feud claimed its fourth victim when Gibson was shot dead in Tallaght after the rival outfit heard he was swearing revenge for the murder of Nugent.

Small-time criminal Nugent was involved with a woman who has close links to jailed gangland hitman James 'Nellie' Walsh.

Walsh is considered to be the leader of the mob that the Kinahan cartel-linked Clondalkin drugs mob is threatening to "wipe out".

The mob are responsible for three of the feud's four murders.

Nugent's funeral mass will be held at the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Rowlagh, Clondalkin, at 10am.
