Gardai hunt man who tried to lure girls into car

THIS is the man gardai want to quiz in connection with an attempted child abduction in Dublin.

Officers are desperately searching for the suspect after two young girls were offered a lift in a car.

He approached the girls, aged seven and eight, at about 8pm in the Ridgewood area of Swords in north Co Dublin.

The case is to feature as one of the appeals on RTE One's CrimeCall tonight. Schools in the area have been on alert since the disturbing incident.

Gaelscoil Bhrian Boroimhe issued a text warning to parents, stating: "Please mind your children. Strangers offering lifts to children reported in the Swords area."

Another school, Holy Family Junior School, in Rivervalley, Swords, also sent out a written notice.

A Garda spokeswoman said the man approached two young girls in Ridgewood estate on April 26.

"The girls said the man tried to entice them into his car by offering to give them a lift to a nearby playground. Luckily, the children ran off and told their parents," she said.

Mark Cunningham, principal of the Holy Family Junior School, said parents were alerted about the incident and teachers were asked to revise the Stay Safe programme with pupils.

Arthur Brown, of Rivervalley Residents' Association, revealed a parent of one of the girls witnessed the suspect's approach.

"This guy approached them at the entrance of the estate where he would have been able to make a quick exit," Mr Brown told the Northside People.

"Luckily, it seems one of the parents who had seen the approach ran out to make sure the kids didn't get into the car," he said.
