Gardai believe woman was spotter for gang

Gardai investigating the murder of Limerick rugby captain Shane Geoghegan believe a woman may have played a central role in the slaying.
Officers are now trying to trace the movements of the woman, who has links to the McCarthy-Dundon gang.
The woman was seen near the Kilteragh estate early on November 9, where 28-year-old Geoghegan was gunned down in a case of mistaken identity.
Gardai do not suspect that the woman was at the scene when the gunman opened fire on his innocent victim. But officers believe she may have been involved in the "logistical" lead-up to the shooting -- passing on information about movements of people near Clonmore.
Footage
During door-to-door searches, gardai asked residents about sightings of a woman and a man. Extensive CCTV video footage is being trawled to track the movements of a car used by the suspect woman, and a dark Renault car which was stolen last October in Ballysimon and found burned out in Rosbrien after the murder.
Shane Geoghegan was shot as he walked home to his house in Clonmore -- where he lived with his fiance, Jenna Barry -- after watching the Ireland-Canada rugby match with friends at another house in Kilteragh.
It has now emerged that the intended target was not at home in Clonmore when the gunman opened fire on Geoghegan.
The intended target, a known drugs importer who lives in the estate with his partner and their two young children, had been at a christening party at a hotel in the city. The couple had arrived back at their house in Clonmore at about 2am -- just 30 minutes after the shooting.
After escaping yet another assassination attempt -- he avoided an attempt on his life in August 2006 -- the intended target has been seen driving in and out of Clonmore over the past few days in his top-of-the-range Saab.
The target had been put on a death list by the McCarthy- Dundons because of his links to the rival Keane-Collopy gang.
