The boy is believed to have been discharged from hospital last night.
He had been treated locally before being transferred to Our Lady's Children's Hospital Crumlin in Dublin., which is equipped to provide specialist treatment for his burns.
It is reported that gardai are currently investigating the incident, which took place at the Belgium Park Estate in the town yesterday afternoon.
Gardai are advising people in the area to avoid any contact with any fireworks and have issued warning about fireworks in light of the accident.
Local councillor Donal Sherry said that the fireworks hadn't begun to be a huge problem in the town yet .
"It's an annual thing," he said. "Us being based on the border it's often more of a problem," he said.
