Gangland figure Eugene Cullen found dead in prison cell
A MAN serving a life sentence for his part in the murder of a father-of-two has been found dead in prison.
Eugene Cullen was found dead in his cell at the Midlands Prison this morning at around 9am following a suspected overdose.
The 31-year-old was serving a life sentence for his involvement in the murder of Seamus O’Byrne at Tymon Park North in Tallaght in March 2009.
He was regarded as a key member of ‘Fat’ Freddie Thompson’s gang by gardai – and he played a significant role in the Crumlin-Drimnagh feud.
O’Byrne was targeted because of his friendship with rival mob boss Brian Rattigan.
His partner was Sharon Rattigan, the sister of Brian.
She was also shot in the leg during the attack and gave evidence in court.
He spent three years on the in Amsterdam before being arrested on food of a European arrest warrant in 2012.
He was extradited back to Ireland where he was remained incarcerated ever since.
