Gang put barriers on road to delay gardai response after attempted robbery of ATM
A gang who tried to pull an ATM machine out of a bank in the early hours of the morning had placed barriers on the road from the garda station to delay any response.
The planned incident happened at 3am in Castleblaney Co Monaghan.
A gang had stolen a construction machine from a construction site at a school just 300 metres away and used it to smash the wall of the Ulster Bank on the Dublin Road in the town.
Gardai responding to a 999 call found their way to the bank blocked by barriers on the road.
Having removed the road block they then sped to the scene to see the gang fleeing in a dark grey Audi A6 car and a white Ford Transit van.
The stolen teleporter and the ATM machine were left at the badly damaged bank by the gang.
Gardai chased the van which later crossed the border at Drumacon in the direction of Cullyhanna.
The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.
