A GANG of up to 20 feral teenagers attacked gardai who were carrying out a search in a flats complex in Dublin's south inner city.

Brick, bottles and other missiles were thrown at officers during the terrifying incident at Leo Fitzgerald House in Hogan Place at around 7pm on Saturday.

"It is an absolute miracle that no garda was injured in the course of this gang attack and that no major damage was caused to any garda property," a source said.

RELEASED

A stun gun and pepper spray were recovered during the search. A man in his 20s was arrested at the scene and taken to Donnybrook Garda Station. He was later released without charge.

However, before officers could drive him out of the flats, a large gang of youths threw missiles at them from a higher balcony.

It is understood that around a dozen officers were targeted in the incident. No arrests have yet been made in relation to the attacks.

The Donnybrook officers took part in a planned search in a crackdown on criminality on the capital's southside.

The same complex was at the centre of a bitter feud in March last year in which a flat was burnt out.
