Therapy should be available in every school and village in Ireland, instead of being just for those who can pay for it, says actor Gabriel Byrne.

The star of the hit HBO psychotherapy drama series In Treatment said Ireland has changed so much in the last decade but our ways of dealing with stress and pressure have yet to catch up, leaving many struggling.

“One of the greatest enemies is silence,” he said.

In the series Byrne played psychologist Doctor Paul Weston, who he described as a flawed human being.

“I think we have a cynical attitude to therapy in Ireland, but we are all vulnerable human beings struggling through life,”  Byrne added.
