Four plead not guilty of murder
FOUR men have pleaded not guilty to the murder of a man in a Dublin pub.
John Carroll (33) was shot dead in Grumpy Jack's pub in The Coombe on February 18, 2009.
Christopher Zambra (35), from Galtymore Road, Drimnagh; Damian Johnson (27) of Cashel Road, Crumlin; Peter Kenny (28), McCarthy's Terrace, Rialto and Bernard Hempenstall (26) of Park Terrace, The Coombe, were arraigned before Mr Justice Paul Carney in the Central Criminal Court.
Bush not to attend service
Former US President George Bush has declined an invitation from Barack Obama to attend an observance at New York's ground zero.
Mr Obama plans to visit the site of the destroyed World Trade Centre following the death of Osama bin Laden in a raid by US Navy Seals in Pakistan.
The al-Qa'ida attack on the Twin Towers, which killed about 3,000 people, occurred in the early months of Mr Bush's presidency in 2001.
A spokesman said the former president appreciated the offer to attend but had chosen to remain out of the spotlight.
Barenboim in Gaza concert
Pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim, who has criticised Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories, brought musicians from Berlin, Vienna, Paris and Milan to play Mozart in the Gaza Strip yesterday.
The concert is "a sign of our solidarity and friendship with the civil society of Gaza," Barenboim said in an emailed statement sent by the office of the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, which helped organise the event.
Twilight leads at MTV awards
The third Twilight film led the contenders for the MTV Movie Awards, extending the vampire series' dominance of the cable channel's annual lighthearted salute to Hollywood.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse picked up eight nominations, followed by Inception with seven. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, The Social Network and Black Swan followed with six, five and four, respectively.
