Flatley gave up his flight seat so my child could sit with us, says ultimate fighter 'Iceman' Chuck
FORMER Ultimate Fighter Chuck Liddell didn't realise that a kind stranger that he met on a flight to Dublin was none other than Irish dancing superstar Michael Flatley.
The Lord of the Dance offered to give up his seat after an issue arose on the flight about one of Chuck's children having to sit in their own seat.
But the 44-year-old, who retired from the Ulimate Fighting Championships (UFC) in 2010, admitted that he didn't realise who he had been sitting next to.
"Like I know who people are if you tell me their names, but I'm not really good at recognising people," he said.
It was only after he got off the plane that he was told that the friendly passenger was Mr Flatley.
"I knew exactly who he was once I was told about him, but I was just like 'Oh that's who that was?," explained Liddell.
"He was a sweet guy, he really was nice. It was cool," he told 2fm Radio.
The former UFC champ is in Dublin this week, ahead of an event at Citywest Hotel on Friday where he will be speaking to fans.
In a separate event, hometown UFC star Conor McGregor will be taking to the ring in the O2 on Saturday for a clash with Diago Brandoa.
Chuck, nicknamed 'The Iceman', caused quite a stir on Sunday when he watched the World Cup final in Harry's on the Green, South King Street.
Bar manager Ryan Pedlar (inset, pictured with Lidell) said: "He was a really nice guy. You never know with famous people, but Chuck was really down to earth."
